Pre-Service Teachers
Mafalda
On our first day meeting the Pre-service teachers, we worked together to form a collage. When we put all the pieces together, the image that formed was Mafalda, a character in the famous Argentine comic, Mafalda.
Program
•Pre-service teachers go to tertiary school / junior college. Classes are usually held at night. These are four-year programs.
•These students go to tertiary school after graduating from their secondary schools. Even more, students might also have part-time jobs during the day.
Teaching—it’s similar to our education programs at the University: the students choose either primary or secondary and are on a track for that program. Classroom experience similar to our CI classes, with one semester of student teaching as well.

Classes
•Students are divided up into years and grade level. There were cohorts, similar to our cohorts in the Ed. Program, that helped the students become close with each other.
•We observed a pre-service cohort for primary school teachers. These pre-teachers take classes similar to our Elementary Ed program—there are general education classes in a variety of subjects. However, there are also methods classes that the pre-service teachers take.
•We went to a few primary schools with this pre-service cohort to observe how teachers teach and the different classroom and school dynamics.

Finding a Job
Different from the United States, in order to apply for a job, these pre-service teachers must add their name to a national list. Usually, if there are job openings, the person with the most points on the list gets the job. Pre-service teachers can earn points by taking additional classes, substituting for classes, and through other professional development opportunities.
