What do you mean, "Lens of Assets"?

As educators (or future educators), the way that we look at diversity in the classroom will impact how we create a learning environment. To ensure that we did not let our experiences in American classrooms cloud our evaluations of these schools, we reminded ourselves to look at the positive things or assets that were in these classrooms rather than the things that they did not have.
Learning is occurring in these schools, even though they may not have Smart Boards or laptops for every student. When we looked through this lens of assets, we were able to see teaching methods that we would want to incorporate into our own pedagogy.
